What is a reborn.
A reborn baby doll is made using a vinyl doll kit, silicone or store bought baby doll, being transferred into an amazing realistic looking baby using mediums and techniques of the artists choice.
Reborn process.
First I will gently open up a baby's nose for just that added realism then give baby a lovely warm bath washing any oils or impurities that may be left from manufacturing, I then will leave the doll to dry completely.
Once dried I then give the doll a base coat, paint veins on then do multiple layers of colouring to bring out a life like skin tone with mottling and blushing. Not one little crease is missed as I pay great attention to these areas. I use genesis heat set paints and blend my own colours. I will then do their little fingers and toes and eyebrows, which sometimes are painted on or drawn on. The painting process alone can take days to achieve the perfect skin tone I am after.
Eyes are inserted and baby's nose is backed with dark felt.
I will then root the head with premium mohair one to two strands at a time using a 43 german rooting needle, this method is very time consuming and takes many many hours but the out come is always the best. If I want a thicker head of hair I will use a 42 german needle. The hair is sealed inside of the head using a waterproof sealer so you are able to gently style baby's hair.
Once I'm happy with the colouring and the hair I will then start weighting baby to feel like a real baby using small glass beads and poly fill, each limb is sealed with cupboard and felt glued across the top so no leakage can happen, inside of the body and the head I put glass beads into stockings then pack well with poly fill, the limbs and head are then connected to the body using cable ties.
Baby is then dressed and then its time for lots of cuddles.
